PBS has given some old materials and resources a new lease of life by donating them to Bricknell Primary School for use on their OPAL play areas.
The Hull-based school started its Outdoor Play & Learning journey in 2022, transforming playtimes and lunchtimes for pupils. The OPAL scheme puts an emphasis on children learning beyond the classroom and encourages collaboration, problem solving, imagination and resilience.
Several play areas have been created across the school and PBS has donated pallets, tyres, timber and pipes amongst other items to help with that.
Glenn Smurthwaite, Managing Director at PBS Construction, said:
“When we were approached by Bricknell we were only too happy to help. As a family we have a strong connection with the school as myself, my brother and my sister are all former pupils.
“A lot of the resources we’ve donated would have gone to be recycled so it’s great to see them being upcycled and put to good use on the various play areas. It’s important to us as a business to be able to support the local community and this is a nice way to do that.”
Lucy Clay, staff member at Bricknell Primary, added:
“PBS have kindly donated materials and resources to give them a new lease of life by donating them to Bricknell Primary School for use in our OPAL play provision. Bricknell started OPAL play with the aim to transform lunchtimes for all children. The OPAL scheme puts an emphasis on children learning beyond the classroom and encourages collaboration, problem solving, imagination and resilience.
“At Bricknell we have transformed the lunchtime provision. We have created many new areas across the school and PBS have donated pallets, tyres, timber and pipes amongst other items to help with that. We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation from PBS. These materials have been instrumental in creating engaging and imaginative play spaces for our all of the children, enhancing their learning and play experiences.”
