PBS in the community

As a business with its roots firmly in Hull and East Yorkshire we’re passionate supporters of our local community. Whether it’s backing Hull FC as a commercial partner, sponsoring amateur sports teams and athletes in the area, engaging with schools or supporting local charities and community groups, we love to be involved.

For us it’s about giving something back to the area that we’re so proud to be a part of. A lot of our projects are local and many of our people are from Hull and East Yorkshire. We’re firm believers that local businesses should contribute to their local communities and that’s why we do what we do from a community perspective.

Our partnership with Hull FC is a long-standing one. In 2023 we’re once again the club’s front of shorts sponsor (for a third year running). We also have an involvement with the amateur game and are proud to be a commercial partner of West Hull Amateur Rugby League Club.

But it’s not just rugby league that we support. We have a big involvement in local grassroots football and sponsor a number of clubs, both at junior and adult level.

One of our proudest partnerships was with Lads FC, a not-for-profit community club which raises awareness around mental health and provides an all-inclusive environment for people of any age, race, gender, religion or ability to play football. We were delighted to be their first ever front of shirt partner.

We’re also a proud sponsor of Hull-born Callum Akester, a rising star of golf, and on top of all this have supported disability sport in Hull and East Yorkshire for a number of years too.

Away from sport we work with a number of local charities and community groups. Our Managing Director, Glenn Smurthwaite, is patron of the Dan Kitching35 Foundation which raises money to make a difference to the lives of the families and people who are receiving treatment for cancer at the Queen’s Centre, near Hull. PBS Chairman, Pete Smurthwaite, is pictured here presenting a cheque to Bryan Birch from the Foundation.

Education is also a keen focus for us and we regularly support Run With It, a charity that delivers innovative and challenging learning programmes for children, young people and adult learners. We also enjoy working with local primary schools, secondary schools and colleges whenever we can.

That can be anything from supporting mock interview days through to chatting to the next generation about the construction industry and the different roles within it.

As we’ve already said, it’s about putting something back. If you’d like to chat to us about potentially supporting your community project please feel free to drop our Community Manager an email on
